Planetary Ingestion - A New Study Finds
Previous research had discovered that some distant stars possess unusual levels of elements, such as iron, which one would expect to make up rocky worlds such as Earth. This and other evidence suggested that stars may sometimes ingest planets, but much remained uncertain about how often that might happen. In the new study, the researchers used the European Space Agency's Gaia satellite to identify 91 pairs of stars.

The Science of Flavor
I think that one of the easiest ways to embrace this is to embrace the Maillard reaction. I think the most interesting thing about flavor is that it sits at this intersection of the extremely concrete — based on molecules, which we can measure, real matter — and the personal. It's a great example of how thinking about the science of flavor is.

Understanding Past Climate Patterns in North China
ancient tree rings have been used to reconstruct climate records of North China. Over the last three decades, scientists have noticed that North China has become increasingly dry and warm, raising concerns about climate change in the region. Traditional methods have struggled to provide a detailed picture of climate variability and its causes in North China, highlighting a need for more innovative approaches.

Scripps News Reports: 48 Hours on the Border
The list of accomplished women in science and technology is long — but they are still vastly underrepresented in their fields. Far too often, women like them are overlooked, overworked and underpaid.
