Science Fair in Mancos
Brady Archer was awarded the Colorado Association of Science Teacher’s award and the Doug Steward Memorial award for his accomplishments at the state science fair. This year, seven middle school student and one high school student competed at the State level. The last grand award was Cuinn Archer, who built an automatic plant waterer that he designed and made with a 3D printed.

NASA Hearing Back From Voyager 1
Voyager 1 is the most distant spacecraft from Earth. It stopped sending back understandable data last November. Flight controllers traced the blank communication to a bad computer chip. The team is still working to restore transmission of science data.

Beacon Academy Science Olympiad
Beacon Academy Science Olympiad team earned a bid to the Illinois State competition at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The event was held this past weekend with 25 high school teams in Division A from across the state that competed in a series of events that are a balance between various disciplines.

UC Merced Summer Research Experience Program
The National Science Foundation awarded a team led by Professor Ajay Gopinathan and Carrie Kouadio funding to establish a summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at UC Merced. Interdisciplinary Biological Engineering and Science Training (I-BEST) program is affiliated with the CREST Center for Cellular and Biomolecular Machines (CCBM) CCBM already has one undergraduate academic-year fellowship program and one established summer research program focused on local students.
