In France, the IHU had no ethical approval for COVID-19 inpatients. The IHU says it is a "big, big mess" but it is not a priority for the government at the moment. In the past, ANSM has retracted the papers without a CPP.

The Largest Helium Reserve in North America
Researchers have hit on what could be the largest reserve of helium in North America at a drill site in Minnesota. Pulsar Helium, Inc. has a drilling rig located just outside of Babbitt in an iron-ore mining district known as the Iron Range. The rig broke ground at the beginning of February and made the discovery just over three weeks later.

Women in Engineering at Watson College
Assistant Professor Tracy Hookway has received funding from the National Institutes of Health and other sources to create 2D and 3D models of human cardiac cells and investigate their functions. In 2023, Koh received a five-year, $500,000 National Science Foundation CAREER Award to explore the role of autonomic neural stimulation on the function of engineered cardiac tissues.

Body George Mason University’s Potomac Science Center hosted the Girls in STEAM Empowerment Conference on Thursday, February 29. This annual event welcomed 60 middle school students for a day of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The event promotes STEAM careers for young women through engaging discussions and hands-on activities.

Hastings College Science Fair
More than 120 students entered 100 projects in the Central Regional Science Fair for the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences on Tuesday, March 5. The Junior Division is open to students in 6th through 8th grade, while the Senior Division is closed to those in grades 9 through 12. The top Senior Division projects from the state competition will also qualify for the National Science Fair.

Best of Fair Results for Dunbar High School Science and Engineering
Grace Sun of Beaumont earned Best of Fair in the middle school group (grades 5-8) Hadley Floyd of Athens-Chilesburg Elementary topped the fourth-grade division. The March 2 category winners and runners-up in grades 5-12 will advance to the March 23 state competition at Eastern Kentucky University.

Solar Energy Technologies Office Grant - UCF
The metallization process produces metal contacts that are placed on silicon solar cells to harvest electrical currents. Silver is typically used to manufacture the contacts due to its ability to withstand high temperatures without oxidizing, but it’s very expensive to use. To solve this problem, the researchers will use lasers to heat the copper nanoparticles and reduce the possibility of oxidation.

UTEP Leaps Into the Future With New X-Ray Facility at Cornell
Researchers at The University of Texas at El Paso are collaborating with the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) on the development of a precision X-ray beamline that will significantly advance the two universities’ agricultural and environmental research. The beamline is funded by a new $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), approximately $1.3 million of which will go to UTEP.
