Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair
Middle and high school students presented their science fair projects to judges at the 74th annual Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair on March 11. There were 927 students presenting 694 projects at the 2024 fair, with participation in the fair “almost double that of last year,” wrote Eric Hartung, the science fair’s 2023-2024 president of the executive board. Students from around the Southland competed for prizes in science, technology, engineering and math.

Pregnant and Breastfeeding Monkeys Are at Risk from Climate Change
Research has shown that during drought, when resources such as food and water are less easy to come by, a pregnant monkey mother’s internal body temperature can be warmer than usual. Although this helps ensure their own survival, it puts infants’ health at risk, scientists say. During drought, mothers were also found to experience high body temperatures when breastfeeding after birth, more so than females who did not have young offspring.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Service Extinguished a Fire on Science World
Firefighters had to get creative to put out a small fire that was burning on the underside of Science World. The water wasn't able to reach the flames. So another boat was deployed. A similar fire under Science World was extinguished on Saturday.

Clovis North Freshman Advances Science Project
This week, students from around Fresno County will compete in a science fair. For one Clovis North freshman, she's entering an experiment. She started testing ways to reduce the amount of water needed to grow plants. The project landed her a top 30 finalist on the 2023 Society for Science.
