1860 marked a turning point, with the first international chemistry conference deciding that the elements should be arranged by atomic weight. That’s the average weight of all the protons and neutrons in all the known isotopes, or forms, of that element. In Germany, Lothar Meyer came up with the same table at the same time as Mendeleev, but was beaten to the publication punch by just a few months.

The USMCA Decree Defends GMO Corn
The United States demands that Mexico explain why GMO corn is unsafe. This type of corn is engineered with lab techniques that modify the genetic content of seeds. The Decree applies to corn in tortillas or masa (dough) No surprise, most American corn is GMO. They said Mexico lacks a scientific basis for the restrictions.

WVU CAREER Award Winners
The National Science Foundation has named four faculty members as 2024 NSF CAREER award winners. The award is considered the most elite from the NSF that supports junior faculty. The Red Cross Honors a Science Teacher at Widefield High School
Laura Smith, a science teacher from Widefield High School, was honored this past weekend by the Red Cross. The honor comes after Smith responded to a soccer player who stopped breathing during a game last year. She immediately responded, performed CPR and used a defibrillator, ultimately saving the player's life.
