Steward Hospital Closures in Massachusetts Could Be a New Opportunity for Massachusetts Health Care
Steward’s financial problems have led to a lack of adequate staffing and supplies in some of its facilities in recent months, according to media reports. In addition, there are fears that some of the Steward hospitals will close, leaving communities without crucial health care services. Steward wound up selling its Massachusetts properties in 2016 for $1.25 billion, and has been leasing the properties back from MPT.

These trends reflect the growing risk of dengue internationally, with at least 23 countries reporting outbreaks in 2023 and more than 5 million cases reported to the World Health Organization. Dengue transmission has been increasing globally over the past two decades.
