James Okubo dropped out of college in 1942 when Executive Order 9066 forced Japanese Americans into internment camps. A year later, the U.S. government reversed its policy on Japanese Americans serving in the military. In 2000, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Bill Clinton.
