Cognito to Expand Services in Canada
Cognito Health has secured $2 million CAD in seed funding for its all-in-one virtual mental healthcare platform. The all-equity seed round closed last November and was funded by StandUp Ventures and Graphite Ventures, Spring Impact Capital and Simplex Ventures. Currently only available in British Columbia (BC), the platform aims to provide users with a single access point for immediate mental health treatment.

All Uses of Strychnine to Be Banned
All uses of strychnine are cancelled," Lynn Lee of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency said Wednesday in a conference call to stakeholder groups. The decision, to be officially announced Thursday, reverses a proposed ruling on the toxin made by the agency in 2022. That decision would have allowed some uses of the poison to continue, but Lee said that changed after a 90-day comment period.

The Relationship Between Frailty and Social Vulnerability
In a recent review published in the journal The Lancet Healthy Longevity, researchers collated the outcomes of 130 observational studies. Their findings present that both frailty (reduced physiological reserve) and social vulnerability (insufficient social interactions, support, or connections) worsen with increasing age. When present together, these conditions result in a significantly increased decline in physical and cognitive function and mortality risk. This compromises the ability to cope with everyday or acute stressors.
