Economic Development Committee voted to Allocate $500,000 for a Plaza Improvement
Evanston Economic Development Committee members backed allocating some of the city’s remaining federal recovery funds to key business initiatives. About $900,000 has already been allocated for Evanston Thrives murals by Art Encounter ($61,0000); Place-making Kit Planning by All Together Evanston ($78,200); Independence Park Dining Terrace ($500,000); and the Small Business Recovery Fund, $250,000. Staff has already sent out a Request for Proposals on the project.

Most animals that light up are found in the depths of the ocean and they might have been doing it longer than thought. In a study published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, scientists report that deep-sea corals that lived 540 million years ago may have been the first animals to glow.
