Intermountain Health and Picterus AS have entered a partnership to study a new smartphone-based application that can estimate bilirubin levels in newborn babies using the smartphone’s camera. Three of five newborns will experience jaundice, which is the yellowing of the skin. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and its collaborators have delivered a small but mighty advancement in timing technology. This chip reduces something known as timing jitter, which is small, random changes in the timing of microwave signals.
