Students at Douglas S. Freeman High School may be the first to grow oyster mushrooms in moon dirt for NASA’s international Plant the Moon Challenge. Students can choose which plant they want to grow in the moon dirt, also known as “lunar regolith,” and when brainstorming for the project, senior Jailyn Pipes said, they didn’t want to be “boring” and grow something simple like potatoes or tomatoes.
