In Our DNA SC requires participants to complete an online consent form and submit a saliva sample. The goal is to better understand how genes affect health risks such as cancer and heart disease. Only about 12% of the project’s participants who provided sociodemographic data identify as Black, while an additional 5% identified as belonging to another racial minority group.
