Frankie Machine, played by a young Frank Sinatra, doing drugs in the 1955 novel by Nelson Algren. The movie was projected on a large screen at one end of a darkened room. It was part of an ongoing program titled “Chicago in Film,” a series of monthly film screenings for senior citizens who live within the 24th district.
