The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that longtime Sundance Institute leader Michelle Satter would receive this year’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Satter has been a mentor to generations of filmmakers that span Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Kimberly Peirce and Taika Waititi. For many emerging artists, Satter is a powerful behind-the-scenes figure who is as beloved as she is respected.
