statewide sports wagering in North Carolina is off to a “strong start,” lottery official says. Preliminary monetary numbers for the first day and first week were presented at a meeting of the North Carolina State Lottery Commission. By midnight March 11, over $23.9 million had been wagered, of which almost $12.4 million were “promotional wagers" — incentives for new customers offered by the companies once an initial bet is made.

McDowell County Little League is holding online signups for its Challenger Division and Senior League through Friday, April 5. Senior League is for any boys ages 13-16 and the Challenger division is for children ages 4-18 with physical and intellectual challenges. Cost of signup is $60, which includes cost of jersey.
