China's Einstein Probe (EP) astronomical satellite has captured its first in-orbit detection images. Inspired by the functions of lobster eyes, EP uses new X-ray detection technology to observe mysterious transient phenomena in the universe that flicker like fireworks. During its commissioning phase, EP has detected 17 x-ray transients and 127 stellar flares.

Will 2024 Be As Hot As Last Year?
El Nio is what happens when unusually warm surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific Ocean unleash a domino effect on weather patterns right around the globe. This warm spell is followed by a neutral period which could then shift to unusually cold ocean surface temperatures, called La Nia, later this year. The effects of the El Niio depend on the region, with some parts of the world forgoing rain while others flood.
