Inspired by the functions of lobster eyes, EP uses new X-ray detection technology to observe mysterious transient phenomena in the universe that flicker like fireworks. During its commissioning phase, EP has detected 17 x-ray transients and 127 stellar flares.

El Nio is what happens when unusually warm surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific Ocean unleash a domino effect on weather patterns right around the globe. This warm spell is followed by a neutral period which could then shift to unusually cold ocean surface temperatures, called La Nia, later this year.
