New Mobile Learning Lab in Maine Starts at Schools
The BIOLAB by Educate Maine is headed to Fort Kent next week to begin stops at 12 schools in rural Maine. The idea is to introduce students to jobs in the life sciences beyond being a doctor or nurse. On the outside of the mobile lab, a sign lists the stats about life sciences in Maine, which include 9,000 jobs at 450 companies with an average salary of $100,000.

Planetary Science Caucus Relaunched
Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and Don Bacon (R-Neb.) announced March 6 that they were restarting a Planetary Science Caucus in Congress. The goal of the caucus is to educate other members and the public on the benefits of space exploration. oVert - The Next Big Thing in Natural History Education
OpenVertebrate (oVert) is a five-year collaborative project among 18 institutions to create 3D reconstructions of vertebrate specimens and make them freely available online. The project was funded with an initial sum of $2.5 million from the National Science Foundation, along with eight additional partnering grants totaling $1.1 million. It will take further developments in machine learning and supercomputing to use the data to their full potential.

The network now has 24 members in four cohorts representing North Carolina’s diverse geography and crop production systems.
