Scientists in Spain are hoping a new online tool could help. Called aRukon, the virtual marketplace will allow researchers to sell unused animal samples to other labs, potentially cutting waste and saving animal lives. Scientists from 30 different universities, research centers, and companies in Spain have already signed up.

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry placed No. 1 in the 2024 Newsweek Readers’ Choice Awards for best science museum in the U.S. The museum was among 15 locations nominated by Newsweek magazine in the category. The public voted on their favorites throughout February, and winners were announced March 7.

Students measured oysters with calipers and opened the mollusks to look for shell-boring worms and other infestations. About 50 students played “squid bingo” during a dissection workshop run by Joe Miceli of the Seacoast Science Center in New Hampshire. The 250 students got a chance to talk with fledgling and experienced scientists during the event.

The Trump administration attacks on scientific experts increased the level of partisan polarization in the United States and made the question of scientific expertise more salient to many Americans. The proportion of Americans with a low level of trust in scientific expertise rose from 3% in 2016 to 13% in 2020," said lead researcher Jon D. Miller of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan.
