Mars Volcano - A New Giant Volcano on Mars
Noctis Labyrinthus is a volcanic witness to most of the Red Planet’s multi-billion-year history. It is almost 30,000 feet tall (a little higher that Everest) and perhaps 280 miles long at its base. The work has yet to be peer-reviewed, but those who saw the presentation are skeptical.

Doug Brinkerhoff is the most recent University of Montana researchers to earn awards from the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development Program. He uses computer code to model the behavior of ice sheets. It’s hard to predict how fast ice will slide over the hidden material it rests upon. But it’s also expensive running these ice sheet models.

Aquarium Science Program at Western Oregon University
Western Oregon University’s Aquarium Science program received a grant from the Western Foundation Competitive Grants program to create a display aquarium in the lobby of the Natural Science building. Graduates are trained to be an aquarist, which is someone who manages aquariums and takes care of marine and freshwater plants and animals. The 100-gallon aquarium is on loan from OCCC.

UT Master of Science in Engineering - Semiconductors
Starting in the fall of 2025, UT will offer a new Master of Science in Engineering with a major in semiconductor science and engineering. The program will give students a deep understanding of the science of semiconductors and how to engineer and manufacture these devices. This will be the first program in the state, and one of a select few nationwide, to develop a workforce of master’s students to bolster a semiconductor industry hungry for talent.

Robotics - A Self-Correcting Humanoid Robot That Learns to Make a Cup of Coffee
In the new promotional video, a technician asks Figure 01 to perform a range of simple tasks in a minimalist test environment resembling a kitchen. Next, he asked Figure 01 for something to eat and is handed an apple while it was picking up some trash. The robot answers all the questions with a robotic but friendly voice. It's unlikely that Figure 01 is using ChatGPT itself.

Florida State University Student Receives Guy Harvey Fellowship
Annais Muschett-Bonilla, a doctoral student in the College of Arts and Sciences, received a $5,000 research stipend and certificate personally designed and signed by Guy Harvey. Her research focuses on the maternal reproduction of elasmobranch fish, which includes sharks, rays, skates and sawfish.
