Moonquakes Are More Seismically Active Than We Thought
A reanalysis of abandoned data from NASA's Apollo missions has uncovered more than 22,000 previously unknown moonquakes. Moonquakes are the lunar equivalent of earthquakes , caused by movement in the moon's interior. Unlike earthquakes, these movements are caused by gradual temperature changes and meteorite impacts, rather than shifting tectonic plates (which the moon does not have, according to NASA. In 1969 and 1977, seismometers deployed by Apollo astronauts detected around 13,000

Marine Cloud Brightening - Is it a Climate Solution?
To test the theory out, a group of over 30 leading scientists have written up a research road map that was published in the journal Science Advances yesterday. The paper focuses on how to approach attempts to artificially shade Earth’s surface with marine clouds by spraying saltwater into the air from ships. Cerium Production in the Universe
The n_TOF collaboration at CERN investigates how cerium is produced in stars. The results differ from what was expected from theory, indicating a need to review mechanisms believed to be responsible for the production of cerium. In this study, the scientists used the facility to measure the nuclear reaction of the cerium 140 isotope with a neutron.

The Anthropocene - A New Unit of Geological Time
The Anthropocene Working Group had spent over a decade studying the concept and definition of a new unit of geological time, using this term. They had proposed its start date be 1952, the year nuclear-bomb test residues become evident in sediments worldwide. The 1950s also mark the onset of the "Great Acceleration', when the human population and its consumption patterns suddenly speeded up. But the proposal was voted down earlier this month.
