Bayer Crop Science Canada has partnered with the University of Alberta (U of A) to research the genetic diversity of Canada’s most exported crop. Through this research, the team at U of A aims to make hybrid canola stronger, leading to an increased yield for Canadian farmers. The team is currently evaluating the genes of brassica vegetables, such as broccoli and kale.

Syracuse Abroad has had a Universitywide program in Madrid for years, but the typical junior year experience doesn’t accommodate most science students’ schedules. a survey of incoming A&S students for fall 2023 showed that there was significant enthusiasm to go abroad from those planning to major in subjects like biology, chemistry, biochemistry and other pre-health programs. As a four-year student, she has thrived, excelling in courses like Agrosecurity, Muscle Foods and Eggs, and Comparative Nutrition and Avian Diseases. After earning her associate’s degree from NC State University, she is poised to graduate on May 4 with a degree in poultry science.

On the evening of March 19, more than 500 members of the McGill community gathered in celebration of student work at the fifth annual Undergraduate Poster Showcase. The Showcase is entirely non-competitive, and all presenters participate in workshops to hone their science communication skills. Students also connect with dedicated alumni mentors, including past presenters and McGill Faculty of Science graduates.
