The $35 Million Paid to a Single Agency for the Use of Travel Nurses
the $35 million paid to a single agency over a five month period for the use of travel nurses in Newfoundland and Labrador was up for debate on the first day of the House of Assembly. Opposition Leader Tony Wakeham asked the minister “Who authorized this contract?” Health Minister Tom Osborne shot back, pointing out that Wakeham himself signed off on agency nurses. Wakeham: the expenditure on travel nurses used to be $1 million, not $36 million in five months.

Toronto Measles Vaccination
World Health organization notes an alarming increase in cases in Europe. Due to the transmissibility of the airborne virus, Health Canada said 95 per cent of the population needs to be vaccinated to prevent community spread. But the coverage has dropped and Dr. Isaac Bogoch warns it will find unvaccineted populations. The only case so far this year was linked to travel.

Quebec's X Gender Marker on Health Cards and Driver’s Licences
Québec’s automobile insurance board and its public health insurance board say they’ve been informed of the government’s decision to add a third gender option to the government ID cards. Both the RAMQ and the auto insurance board, or SAAQ, say clients who have requested a non-binary marker on their cards will be contacted shortly to discuss the next steps.

Measles Cases in Quebec Undermine Importance of Vaccination
Quebec's public health director is asking Quebecers to make sure they and their children are properly vaccinated against the measles. At least three cases are related to international travel, but a small number of cases are suspected to have been caused by community transmission. Seven of the province's 10 cases are in Montreal, which has a lower vaccination rate than some other regions.

HB24-1002 - Expanding Access to Behavioral Health Care in Colorado
HB24-1002 passed by a vote of 61 to 3. “With this bill, we’re boosting Colorado’s behavioral health care workforce,” said Rep. Emily Siorta, D-Denver. This bill would make it easier for licensed social workers in participating states to begin working in Colorado. The bill creates the "Social Work Licensure Compact' which creates an agreement between Colorado and six other states.
