Broward Health Foundation DOC & Dine
The Broward Health Foundation hosted its inaugural DOC & Dine at The Wharf Fort Lauderdale on February 15, 2024. More than 350 guests attended the networking and fundraising event which raised over $75,000 for the Foundation. Seaworthy Sponsors included Anesco North Broward, Baird Advisors and medical staff.

NextGen Precision Health - Smita Saxena
Smita Saxena studies neuronal circuits inside the human brain as an established neuroscientist at the University of Missouri. She joined MU’s NextGen Precision Health team in early December 2023, relocating from Switzerland where she had worked in the Department of Neurology and Department for Biomedical Research. Her neuroscience lab, which will be on the fourth floor of the NextGen building, will start research on fighting neurodegenerative diseases in late February.

Dartmouth LHS E-STaR Center Launches
A team of researchers at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine have received a $5 million funding award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) The new Learning Health System E-STaR Center will support the professional development and research for a diverse group of scientists to conduct patient-centered outcomes research. The new Center will be led by Anna Tosteson, ScD, and Eugene Nelson, MD, MPH

Canada Launches New Nursing Retention Toolkit
Health Minister Mark Holland announced Monday that a new nursing retention toolkit will aim to help improve the working lives of nurses. Created by nurses, it will be shared with nurses, their employers and health employers. The plan is part of the government's investment of more than $200 billion over 10 years to improve health care for Canadians.

Ottawa's Second Safe Injection Site Closes
Somerset West Community Health Centre in Chinatown made the decision after two staff members experienced symptoms of nausea, dizziness and headaches. The centre, which provides a space for people to bring pre-obtained drugs and use under professional supervision, says all staff has recovered. It has been in contact with Ottawa Public Health and the Ministry of Health to advise them of the situation.

Canada is expected to face significant labour shortages in general practitioners and family physicians across the country from 2022 to 2031. Quebec Government Approves the Use of Gender Markers on Driver’s Licenses and Health Insurance Cards
In a statement to CityNews, the office of Quebec Family Minister Suzanne Roy says that given the consensus reached and shared by the province’s gender identity committee, the provincial government agrees that the X marker can now be added to health insurance cards and driver’s licenses. Since 2022, trans and non-binary people in Quebec have been able to legally obtain the letter X rather than M or F on their civil status documents.
