Los Angeles Fire Department Recommends Ending "Therapeutic Van" Program
LAFD Assistant Chief Peter Hsiao wrote in a report to the Board of Fire Commissioners. He said that while the premise of using clinicians instead of paramedics is sound in theory, in reality, mental health crisis patients devoid of medical, violence, or substance abuse issues. The so-called "Therapeutic Van' program was announced by former LA Mayor Eric Garcetti in October, 2020.

Researchers at The University of Texas at El Paso are launching a clinical trial to improve walking in the community. The project will enroll local school district employees in 50K 4 Life, a program that challenges them to improve their health by walking at least 50,000 steps per week. About half of El Pasans do not get the recommended daily amount of physical activity, according to Salinas.
