State senators have passed a bill, S. 915, which would create a new position called the Secretary of Public Health and Policy. A similar bill has also been passed in the House, but members of the Freedom Caucus, a group of the most conservative representatives, said the new secretary will have too much power. There’s one passage in the bill they point to and it has to do with emergency powers.
