Floyd County Health Department is offering a car seat safety program. Parents can get a free car seat and get help properly securing it. A car seat can reduce the chances of a child dying in a crash by more than 50%. You must be an Indiana resident to qualify for the program and be a parent, legal guardian or caregiver.

Houston, Texas - Twenty-One Children Died While Using Active Transportation
Twenty-one children in Houston died while using active transportation modes such as walking and cycling between 2018-23. The study authors noted hazardous road conditions for children likely are contributing to a national trend in which kids have become considerably less active. A lack of physical activity contributes to childhood obesity as well as mental health problems and delays in psychological development.

The state health department is disclosing more details about how many children, older adults and Native Americans have lost health coverage over the last year. The latest release of information came in response to a public records request filed in January by Democratic lawmakers. About 127,000 people lost coverage between April and December, about 64% of whom were removed because they were determined ineligible.
