Huntington’s Disease Center of Excellence at UConn Health
HD is a genetic, rare, neurodegenerative disorder that runs in families with an incidence of nearly one case per 100,000 persons worldwide annually. There is no cure for HD, nor disease-modifying therapies, only various medications and psychotherapy counseling to treat the mild-to-severe HD symptoms as the disease progresses and is eventually fatal. The HDSA has named UConn Health a HDSA Center of Excellence for three years.

How Exposure to Light Can Affect Your Mental Health
In the world’s largest study on light exposure and mental health, researchers found people exposed to high amounts of light at night had a 30 percent increased risk of developing depression and a greater chance of psychosis, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, and self-harm. On the other hand, those who were exposed to higher amounts. of light during the day had 20 percent lower risk of depression and were less likely to develop other conditions.

Geriatric and Pediatric Oral Health in Southeast Alaska
American Indian and Alaska Natives experience the highest burden of oral health issues among populations. Therefore, researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry are partnering with the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium to help better understand and improve oral health among geriatric and pediatric populations in Southeast Alaska. Older Alaska Native adults have almost three times as much untreated decay compared to United States white adults 34 46 percent vs. 16 percent.
