Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum has asked a judge to force Providence Health & Services to turn over documents in an investigation of the health system’s charity care program. The department said it’s investigating the practice as a “potential” violation of the state’s Unlawful Trade Practices Act, a consumer protection law, as well as charity care laws that require the nonprofit health system to provide free care to low-income patients in exchange for its various tax exemptions.

A total of 300 women came together in a lawsuit against a Chicago OB/GYN. Fabio Ortega, now 77, pleaded guilty to sexually abusing two of his patients in October 2021. The lawsuit filed Monday details alleged sex abuse stemming back to the early 1990s.
