For more than 200 years, economists have been pointing to the tendency of economies to expand, then slow down, contract and eventually recover. Businesses tend to make different decisions depending on what stage of the business cycle the economy’s in. The unemployment rate starts falling. Businesses might start asking staff to work longer hours.

Zuhal Akbari has opened a pastry factory in Herat, western Afghan city. Most of the 11 women who work with her are university graduates who lost their jobs after the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Under the Taliban, women are barred from working in the public sector and for NGOs, getting a secondary and university education, traveling long distances without male relatives, and going to parks, public baths and gyms.

Madison, Wis. - A 37-Year-Old Man is Arrested in Rusk County
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) reported investigators in its Burglary Crime Unit linked the 37-year-old man to multiple break-ins between mid- and late-January. Three businesses were located on Monroe Street One business was located on the 2400 block of University Avenue. The front door of the restaurant was broken and cash register trays were stolen.
