Accounting Officers to Take Personal Responsibility for Non-Performance of Contractors
Auditor-General has been pushing for accounting officers to be held responsible for offences and irregularities in public finance management within their departments. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly says a public entity’s accounting officer should be responsible if a contractor they approved to undertake a project fails to deliver. PAC recommends that the Treasury approve projects that can guarantee funding and completion within the medium-term economic framework.

Kenya Shilling Strengthens Against the Dollar
Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) data shows one dollar was exchanging for 131.44 shillings by end of last week. This represents a fifth straight day of weakening for the local unit since April 11 when the official exchange rate stood at Sh130.35. Analysts have attributed the changing exchange rate trend to a stronger dollar which has resulted from the Israel-Iran tiff.

Tipperary County Council’s Head of Finance and IT Services Mark Connolly has reminded businesses that Wednesday, May 1 is the deadline for submission of applications for the Increased Cost of Business (ICOB) grant.
