Scott Graham was a professor of computer engineering in AFIT’s Graduate School of Engineering and Management. In his new role, Graham is responsible for managing a $40 million research program of both federal and nonfederal partnerships. He provides policy recommendations and assistance to AFIT leadership, faculty and sponsors on all matters relating to academic research, technology transfer, strategic communications, outreach and partnership activities.

NASA/JPL-Caltech Internships for Underrepresented Students
NASA/JPL-Caltech interns from California State University, Los Angeles are interning at JPL’s Origins and Habitability Lab. Cathy Trejo shows off a tube filled with pebbles designed to mimic Martian regolith. During experiments, fluid is flushed through the tube many times, giving JPL astrobiology interns the chance to study how chemicals may have interacted with water on Mars billions of years ago.

UT Health Science Center Giving Day
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s fourth-annual Giving Day April 23 was a success, raising more than $660,000 and exceeding the goal of 1,000 donors in 24 hours with more than 1,100 donors from across the country. Giving Day, which is led by the Office of Advancement, was held on the same day as Student Appreciation Day this year. To thank donors for their support, the university will hold its first-ever Day of Gratitude Wednesday, May 1.

The Biden Administration’s Rewrite of Title IX Could Impact Women’s Sports
The addition of “gender identity” in the Biden administration’s interpretation of anti-discrimination rules could jeopardize state laws that restrict women’s sports. The new guidelines prohibit any policy and practice that “prevents a person from participating in an education program or activity consistent with their gender identity” experts at the legal advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom said it could force educational institutions to allow men who identify as women to access sports competitions.
