Maggie Raye, who worked at the bakery for five years before taking a “stay-at-home-mom” break, has purchased the beloved Los Gatos bakery and its recipes. Raye added a note of her own on the bakery’s Facebook page: “New owner... same delicious Banana Cake!” For customers and staff, that was reassuring sign she’s devoted to maintaining the many traditions for which this bakery is known.

James L. West Center for Dementia Care launched its Cerebro Sano, or “Healthy Brain,” program in 2023. About 21% of the Tarrant County population over the age of 18 speaks Spanish at home. The program is open to anyone who speaks Spanish and is interested in learning about dementia.

the sculpture is the first life-size representation of a ritual ballplayer found to date in the Huasteca, a tropical region spanning parts of several states along the Gulf Coast of Mexico. Like virtually every other Mesoamerican society, the inhabitants of the region played what is simply known today as the ballgame. For the players, who bounce a solid, dangerously heavy rubber ball off their hips, it was a means of communing with the gods, one that sometimes culminated in human sacrifice.
