New Hampshire Democrat Announces Retirement
Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH) announced in a statement on Wednesday that she would not seek reelection this November and would leave the House as New Hampshire's 2nd District representative. Kuster chaired the powerful New Democrat Coalition, a centrist, pro-business caucus, and is known for working across the aisle on key issues. Of those retiring on both sides of the aisle, more Democrats are seeking other offices than Republicans.

Bryant Animal Control is asking for the public's help in finding information about an animal cruelty case involving a cat who was killed. According to reports, shortly after 3:00 p.m. on March 25, animal control officers were called with reports of a male tabby cat that looked like it had suffered trauma to its head. After examining the cat they learned that it had been shot in the head by a blowgun dart that was about six inches long.

Evanston Running Club Runs Against Hate
Evanston/Skokie had the highest per-pupil spending; the steepest percentage drop in enrollment over the past five years, losing 20.5% of its students. School board member Joey Hailpern, Finance Committee chair, said the student-to-administrator ratio is being targeted as we look to the cuts that are coming this year. District 65 is laying off director of technology, director of principal support and strategy, and assistant director of culture and climate among other positions.

NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller's Death
Lindy Jones, 41, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and defacing a firearm, sources say. Jones’ passenger, Guy Rivera, 34, allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the 31-year-old officer in the stomach after Diller approached two men in an illegally parked car. Rivera and Jones were in the gray SUV when Diller told Rivera to get out, police said.

The Harbor Tunnel carries double the daily traffic of the Key Bridge and the Fort McHenry Tunnel much more than that. The Key Bridge, with its gently sloping arch and views that no tunnel could match, had become an emblem of Baltimore’s identity as a working port city. In 1977, Mr. Metzger said, his father, a truck driver, was coming home from his route and happened upon the bridge’s ribbon cutting.
