Japan confirmed its first case of human-to-human transmission of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), a potentially fatal tick-borne viral hemorrhagic fever. a doctor in his 20s became infected with SFTS after treating a patient in April 2023. The doctor developed a 38-degree fever, a headache and other symptoms.
