Getty J oseph Stalin, the hardline leader of Soviet Russia, died on March 5, 1953, from a cerebral haemorrhage. When doctors arrived, doctors found him semi-paralysed and vomiting blood. Their hesitancy was due to the Russian leader announcing a purge of top physicians who Stalin suspected of treason.
