Pro-Palestinian demonstrations and sit-ins are spreading at universities across the United States and in several campuses around the world. Columbia University in New York, one of the most prestigious universities in the US, has emerged as the centre for student activism since Israel’s war on Gaza began more than six months ago. On April 19, more than 100 protesters were arrested on the campus as police cleared an encampment set up by students.
