On March 8th, International Women’s Day, Irish citizens voted in a referendum on whether or not to replace the so-called “woman in the home” clause. This clause, which dates from 1937, specifies that: “The State shall therefore endeavour to ensure that mothers shall not be obliged by economic necessity to engage in labour to the neglect of their duties” Current research shows that even in modern feminist marriages between men and women, women still do more domestic and care work.
