J.G. Ballard's experiences as a boy were multiplied thousands of times over in what is a vast saga of war across half of Asia. It tells of multiple imperialisms, Western as well as Japanese, and lists staunch claims that Japan's cabinets were only acting in self-defense in the face of dire American economic sanctions. In the end an approximate judicial consensus was cobbled together that condemned seven of the accused to death.
