In recent years, there have been extensive debates about the appropriateness of “deplatforming” or boycotting problematic artists. In the past two centuries, however, the scale and complexity of the world has grown almost unimaginably. Many of the moral problems of today are unfamiliar, and so our intuitions require calibration.
