Garrard Conley’s “All the World Beside” is ostensibly about two Puritan men’s adulterous relationship, and its repercussions for them, their families and their town. In 1730, Nathaniel Whitfield and Arthur Lyman have already committed their crime against the moral order. Somewhat unexpectedly, there is a baby too, who is both the relationship’s proof and symbol.
