Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., called on the Department of Justice to investigate whether migrants from Muslim-majority countries are being targeted for prosecution. In a Los Angeles Times investigation of prosecutions during an 18-month period beginning in October 2021, over 60% of individuals charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas - Del Rio were from Muslim countries. Durbin cited "the rise of Islamophobic attacks' and urged the officials to respond
