Colorado public schools in El Paso County are still working to remove lead from drinking water fixtures following a state law passed in 2022 that required schools to test and report by May 31, 2023. Fixtures with some of the highest amounts of lead have included: kitchen faucet yielding 130 ppb at Manitou Springs Elementary School. The EPA and FDA have set the minimum lead requirement for public water fixtures at 15 micrograms per liter or parts per billion (ppb)
