The Supreme Court overruled its 1998 majority ruling in the JMM bribery case. The apex court had said members of Parliament and state legislatures were immune from prosecution for accepting bribes for voting or speaking in a certain manner in the House. Sita Soren was accused of accepting a brib from an Independent candidate for voting for him. A fresh election was held later, in which she voted for her party candidate.
