In all, 53 school districts — which includes two special education schools — will share $27 million, which will come from the $2 billion Smart Schools Bond Act. Plans were approved by a Smart Schools review board, which is composed of New York State Budget Director Blake Washington, SUNY Chancellor John King, and New York state Education Commissioner Betty Rosa. $21 million of the $27m invested on Tuesday will go towards high-tech security measures. Another $4 million will go toward classroom technology systems.
