National Retail Federation’s (NRF) most recent National Retail Security Survey reported a staggering $112.1 billion in losses from shrink in 2022. Retail shrink encompasses various types of losses—theft, which includes ORC, accounts for nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of the total. In addition to the financial toll, ORC incidents are becoming increasingly violent and brazen, heightening concerns for the safety of retail workers and consumers alike.
