Gov. Roy Cooper (D), who signed legislation authorizing sports betting into law last year, released a video in which he placed his first bet on the Carolina Hurricanes to win the Stanley Cup later this year. When lawmakers approved sports betting, they gave the NC Lottery Commission until mid-June to launch. It’s likely that North Carolina will be the biggest state to launch sports betting in 2024.
