The case stems from Relevent's desire to host a La Liga match in the United States. It was dismissed in July of 2020 before the sports group then appealed two months later. In March of 2023, the 2nd Circuit Court ruled in favor of FIFA in the antitrust case, leading to U.S. Soccer petitioning for the case to be heard.
