Heavy equipment began chewing its way through the former Macy's department store that closed in 2019 Thursday. The plan is to try to draw some of the estimated $40 billion generated by travel sports to Charleston and replace the vacant shell of the former Town Center Mall anchor store. “I want to be clear that this facility is not being built to save the mall,” Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango said.
