Denali, at 20,310 feet above sea level, always seemed abnormally high to Peter Haeussler. He recently came up with a theory as to why Denali stands head and shoulders above neighboring peaks in the Alaska Range. The answer was a long time coming for him, with epiphanies arriving at random times.
