The pace of the universe's expansion is speeding up, not slowing down. The answer isn’t stars, galaxies, or even dark matter. This mysterious form of it is pushing the universe apart faster with every passing second. It was discovered in 1998 by two teams of astronomers observing distant Type Ia supernovae.
